Kiska came from Knox & Bette Rhine’s Nor’Star Kennel in Newton, Kansas. Her mother is Pineridge Disa Be Nikki and her sire is Virkis Tyri from Liz Stacy-Hurley’s Viking Icelandics in Boonesboro, MD.

Kiska quickly won over our hearts and the hearts of everyone she meets. Like most Icies, she is friendly, outgoing, happy, inquisitive and always anxious to make new friends. She is as comfortable with children as she is with patients in senior centers. Kiska is extremely intelligent and anxious to please.

Kiska earned her AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Certificate and her Therapy Dog International (TDI) Certification at one year of age. As a Therapy Dog, Kiska visits nursing homes, senior centers and hospitals to visit with the residents. She also enjoys participating in the TDI reading program where a child is assigned a dog that will listen to them read.
Kiska absolutely LOVES agility Before we go to class, we tell her “run, jump, weave”. She runs to the car, jumps into her crate and waits for us to get into the car.
She also enjoys herding classes, rally and obedience. Kiska is an excellent working dog with great focus and concentration.
We enjoy long walks each day down by the creek and through the woods, playing fetch and chasing balls in the back yard. When we come inside to work, Kiska is at our feet under the computer table, beside us watching TV and keeping our feet warm at night. The Icelandic Sheepdogs enjoy being active or relaxing. Just as long as they are with their humans, they are happy!

When we decided to breed Kiska, we started the search for the perfect male to compliment Kiska’s personality and pedigree. We worked with Jaime Hansen and Knox Rhine to run inbreeding coefficient scores and combined pedigrees. There were several excellent males available and we decided on Hyl Farms Gutti. bred by Elaine Clark and owned by Joyce Hill in Xenia, Ohio.
\ Kiska’s first litter was born May 25, 2007. Two beautiful puppies; Lokasteinn Vaskur, a Black and White Tri Colored male with double dew claws and Lokasteinn Visa, a lovely Sable Colored female with double dew claws.

Kiska was a natural Mom from the very start. She not only mothered her own two puppies but is a wonderful surrogate Mom for our little Chocolate Sable female, Ánægja, from Blue Zafir Kennels in Finland.
